Larimar Stone

Larimar Stone

It’s no secret that I’m in love with larimar — the rare, vibrant blue stone that’s become a staple of Atelys Jewelry.

Below I’m sharing some fun facts about my favorite stone!

Larimar is a variety of the silicate mineral pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic
Although larimar was known by locals of the city Barahona for centuries before, the stone was rediscovered in 1974 by Miguel Mendez and Normal Rilling and given the name ‘larimar’ — a combination of the name ‘Larissa’ (Mendez’s daughter’s name) and ‘mar’ (the Spanish word for ‘sea’)
Larimar is also known as the Atlantis Stone or Stefilia’s Stone

If you have any questions about this special stone, always feel free to ask! Now tell me, what do you LOVE about larimar?
